Review

Gemma is the creation of regarded bartender Johan Evers who, with the exception of the electrics and plumbing, built everything you see in this bar himself. Johan is behind his stick most nights with the very able support of Oscar Drigoris.

Johan was keen that people know this place is a bar rather than a restaurant, hence "The Bar Called" in the name while "Gemma" is an acronym:
G = generosity
E= emotional
M = mindful
M = multilateral
A = artisanal

The honestly appointed bar occupies a small shop space and although the food offering doesn't extend beyond snacks and small plates, Gemma has something of a friendly café vibe.

The simple two-sided card menu lists 10 signature cocktails on one side with riffs on classics and completion winning drinks on the other. Cocktails are well-balanced, tasty and simply presented.

Johan and Oscar are cocktail evangelists, so are happy to not only teach guests how to make their cocktails at home, but they also sell every piece of equipment used in the bar so their gusts have access to professional equipment.
