Review

This mellow little lounge bar is run by a wonderfully hospitable couple, Oliver and Kristina. To work behind such a tiny bar counter night after night is surely a testament to a happy marriage and their hospitality makes you feel as if you have been made most welcome in their own home.

Becketts Kopf is easily spotted thanks to an illuminated portrait of Irish poet and writer Samuel Beckett hanging in the window. Inside you’ll find two small, dimly lit rooms with the bar counter facing you as you walk in. I recommend perching oneself at the far right-hand side of the bar rather than the surrounding low chairs and tables. However, those seeking a more secluded spot should walk past the left side of the bar and into the back parlour.

The cocktail list is printed in old paperback copies of Beckett’s plays, but Oliver is one of Berlin’s best mixologists and I’d strongly advise telling him what you are in the mood for and letting him suggest something for you.

Now you have been introduced, to visit to Berlin without popping in to say hello to Oliver and Kristina would be plain rude.
