In the early 1880s the first Duke of Westminster set about rebuilding Mount Street and with this reconstruction came The Audley. Built in the neo-French Renaissance style, the red brick and pink terracotta frontage with its lush greenery is in harmony with the rest of the street.
Inside, this is a traditional grand old pub with a forest of dark carved wood offset by red leather banquettes and a floral carpet. The original chandeliers hang from the ornately moulded ceiling and the long bar counter traverses the two distinct sides of the Audley. Drinkers congregate on the left and diners on the right. In June 2009 Michelle Obama joined the ranks of the many celebrities to have dinned here.
Four regular cask ales are supplemented by a changing guest beer while 17 wines by the glass feature on a brand-led list. Proper pub grub runs from gourmet sausages and mash, burgers, salads and sandwiches to roasts on Sundays.
