Review

At night Mint Leaf's entrance glows like an oasis in a desert. This well-hidden bar stands out among the mass market chain bars that plague the city. Mint Leaf is decidedly upscale and its back-bar and cocktail list are unequalled in the Square Mile.

Sister to the established Mint Leaf Restaurant in London's Haymarket, this lesser known, but bigger and better 'lounge' quietly opened in 2008 and has since wooed suited and booted city types with modern Indian cooking and superb cocktails.

Inside, a high ceilinged former banking hall has been made contemporary with designer details such as pebble-covered walls. The main area downstairs offers high stools at and around the bar, with low slung seating in a lounge area partially obscured by slatted oak panelling that divides this huge space. There is a more secluded champagne lounge upstairs.

Directions are helpful when locating Mint Leaf. It lies behind the bank of England on an ally which runs between Throgmorton Street and Copthall Avenue.
