The Atlas lies near the top of Seagrave Road, a side road practically opposite the site of what was the Earls Court 2 exhibition centre, and anyone who exhibited at Earls Court will remember the former exhibitor's car and lorry park that handily sat alongside this pub. Both the carpark and Earl's Court are gone and while the area awaits its bold new developments, local business have been visibly hit by the exhibition halls closure. Thankfully the reputation of this well-established gastro pub will ensure its survival ahead of residents moving into these massive new developments.
Formerly a Truman's pub, the names of old beers can still be seen in faded gold lettering around the top of the varnished panelling that lines this old pub's walls. Indeed, little of the interior has changed over the years and the Atlas retains its workaday appearance with bare wooden floorboards and mismatched old tables and chairs.
A kitchen visible through the hatch above the rear fireplace and a blackboard menu hint at The Atlas' gastro pub credentials. Brothers Richard and George Manners bought this place in the late 1990s after serving their apprenticeship at the celebrated Eagle in Farringdon. The daily changing Mediterranean menu represents excellent value for money and can be washed down with a good choice of wines (16 by the glass) three draught ales including Deuchars Caledonian IPA, and a reasonable keg offering.
For alfresco dinning, the Atlas boats a secluded yard at side. It also has a substantial function room and bar on the first floor.
