Unlike numerous other, and the brand leading Italian bittersweet, quinine flavoured, bright red, aperitif, Martini Bitter still contains the crimson-coloured dye carmine, derived the Cochineal (Dactylopius coccus) beetle.

One of the most complex mix of ingredients creates this pleasant, bitter taste. Gentian, cascarilla, sweet orange peels are some examples of botanicals entering in this bitter recipe.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 17/02/2013

Appearance:

Clear, crimson red.

Aroma:

Citrus with a hint of wormwood – somewhat reminiscent of a cough sweet.

Taste:

Pleasantly bitter-sweet. Herbaceous quinine bitterness is balanced by syrupy honey and sugar and flavoured with herbal orange zest.

Aftertaste:

Peppery bitter. Softer and less herbal than Campari with more pronounced orange notes.
