Originally brewed at St. Peter's Abbey in West Flanders, which in 2003 authorized Palm Breweries to take over production of its beers. This top-fermented ale, which undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle, is flavoured with a traditional blend of herbs from Bruges known as 'gruut'.

Palm Breweries brew both Steenbrugge Tripel and Brugge Tripel and it is believed they are essentially the same beer.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 14/01/2012

Appearance:

Very slight haze, golden amber with huge head which subsides to creamy layer of foam leaving lacing in its wake.

Aroma:

Caramel, clove and rosemary spice with ripe peach fruit.

Taste:

Well-balanced palate belies the high alcohol strength with malts and hops bolstered by dry herbal flavours. Slight metalic note.

Aftertaste:

Spoilt by lingering metallic flavour. Lacks the challenging complexity normally associated with a Belgian tripel.
