Known by many in Russia as ‘bread wine’, Polugar is said to be the original Russian style of vodka. It is distilled in copper pot stills banned by the Tsar in 1895 after the introduction of column stills with the state’s monopolisation of vodka production. Russian vodka are now made in column stills

Boris Rodionov is a Russian who is passionate about this country’s vodka heritage but due to Russian legislation was compelled to set up his Rodionov and Sons distillery in neighbouring Poland. He ferments his own wash form a range of different grains and then triple distils these using copper pot stills which were custom made according to 18th-century drawings. Boris has based his range of distillates and flavoured distillates on recipes dating from 1745 held in the Russian National Museum.

Boris clarifies his distillates using a birch wood charcoal filter and egg whites, a technique used by Russian distillers in the 18th century.
