The first modern-day gin to be distilled in the city of Glasgow, Makar is proudly "juniper-led" and derives its name from the ancient Scots word for 'the maker' or craftsman.

Each side of the eight-sided bottle represents one of the botanicals which flavour the gin and are batch distilled with neutral grain spirit in Annie, a copper hybrid still with pot, vapour chamber and side column.

The eight botanicals: juniper berries, angelica root, liquorice, coriander seeds, lemon peel, cassia bark, black peppercorns & rosemary.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 20/08/2019

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Eucalyptus and piney juniper, nutty angelica root and fragrant fresh coriander/flat-leaf parsley leaves. Rosemary notes are subdued but detectable with citrus lemon zest. There is a fruitiness reminiscent of gooseberry and green apple.

Taste:

Superbly clean with powerful pine and eucalyptus juniper. Angelica and fragrant coriander are the most obvious of the supporting botanicals with good liquorice notes and assertive cracked black pepper spice.

Aftertaste:

More pine and eucalyptus on the long finish with liquorice and rooty notes freshened with coriander.

Overall:

Bone dry and distinctly juniper-led with attractive fresh coriander/flat-leaf parsley notes.
