Review and Tasting

Sampled on 15/04/2017

Appearance

(sample bottle BBE 24/Aug/17) Clear, deep coppery amber with a thin but retentive blight beige head and spotted lacing.

Aroma

Burnt brown toast maltiness, caramel/toffee, grilled pineapple and piney hops.

Taste

Full-bodied and robust. Assertive hop bitterness and the bite of the high alc./vol is softened by caramel richness and sweet grilled pineapple.

Aftertaste

Caramel, hops and warming alcohol.

Overall

As 10% beers, and indeed PR stunts, go, Double Helix is surprisingly quaffable. Given the alc./vol. and double-IPA style of this beer we're surprised and disappointed by the relatively short best before date, otherwise it could be a beer to lay down as a winter warmer.
