Grant's Morella Cherry Brandy has a history dating back to 1774. It was mentioned by Charles Dickens in the Pickwick Papers and was said to be favourite of Queen Victoria, whose portrait appeared on the label in the 1990s. In 1998 the liqueur was granted a Royal Warrant by HRH The Prince of Wales

and this is prominently displayed on the label which was updated in March 2015.

The original Thos Grant & Sons Ltd distillery was established in Dover, Kent, and later moved to Maidstone where it flourished under family ownership until the 1950s. The Kentish brewers Shepherd Neame purchased Thomas Grant in 1998 and revived the then out of production liqueur using the original recipe, English grain neutral spirit and Kent grown Morella cherries.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 26/03/2015

Appearance:

Clear, burgundy red.

Aroma:

Fruity, ripe morella cherry and toasted almond.

Taste:

Syrup sweet but not overly so. Fresh morella cherry, cherry jam and almond with a hint of balancing acidity and sourness.

Aftertaste:

Long lingering jammy fruit with pleasing cracked black pepper tingle. Overall: Wonderful fresh cherry notes without the brandy/cognac notes found in some other high-end cherry brandy liqueurs.
