Old Fashioned Cocktail (Difford's recipe) image

Serve in

fl oz Bourbon whiskey
1 fl oz Rittenhouse Bottled In Bond Straight Rye Whisky
fl oz Giffard Sugar Cane Syrup (Sirop Sucre de Canne)

  • Display recipe in:

How to make:

STIR bourbon with three ice cubes (dry to the touch well-frozen ice, not wet ice) in a glass. Add rye whiskey, sugar syrup, bitters and two more ice cubes. STIR some more and add another two ice cubes. And if you have room, add more ice before serving.

Orange zest twist

The melting and stirring in of ice cubes is essential to the dilution, chilling and so the taste of this sublime classic.

Old Fashioned (US muddled fruit version)

As with the Martini, the glass this cocktail is served in has taken the name of the drink. Its origin stems from the adaptation and renaming of a similar drink known as the Whisky Cocktail which was shaken and served up. Who did the adapting and renaming is unknown.
