No. 3 Gin's Unrivalled Classics Competition

No. 3 Gin's newly launched Unrivalled Classics competition tasks bartenders with taking inspiration from a classic cocktail and creating their unique twist on the recipe. Each year will hero a different classic gin cocktail, and for 2024, this is the Gimlet.

Unrivalled Classics is open to professional bartenders working in Germany, Italy, Spain, UK and, for the first time this year the USA, who are invited to enter at the Unrivalled Classics competition website before Tuesday 12th March 2024.

The rules

  • Your No. 3 Gimlet recipe must contain a minimum of 40ml No. 3 London Dry Gin.
  • A maximum of 6 ingredients are permitted, including fruit juices, syrups, drops, or dashes.
  • A maximum of 2 homemade ingredients are permitted (excluding garnishes).
  • Batching of cocktails is not permitted.

Masterclasses

The No.3 Gin team will be holding masterclasses in key cities within each country. These will be focused on the judging criteria, and aim to help competitors build their knowledge of the No.3 Gin brand and the hero cocktail for this year's competition, the Gimlet.

Key dates

The competition opened for entries on 22nd January 2014, and builds to the global final at the No. 3 Gin distillery in Schiedam, Netherlands, on 11th September 2024.

  • Entries close Tuesday 12th March
  • Judging 12th–18th March
  • Finalists Announced Tuesday 19th March
  • Regional heats Monday 8th April to Thursday 16th May
  • National finals Monday 27th May to Thursday 6th June
  • Global Semi-final Tuesday 10th September
  • Global Final Wednesday 11th September

Judging criteria

History - highlighting your knowledge of the classic Gimlet recipe. [10 points]
Modernisation - how have you evolved and modernised the classic recipe, including technique and thought process? [20 points]
Balance of flavour - do the ingredients work together in a balanced manner? How does the flavour profile compliment No.3 Gin? [30 points]
Presentation - presentation of your cocktail (for online entry) and overall presentation (for regionals/finals). [20 points]
Consumer appeal - how likely is a consumer order this cocktail? Would they recommend it to a friend? [20 points]

Bonus points

Social media image - share your creation with the world. [2 points]
Social media video/reel [4 points]
Bonus points can only be collected once; the maximum number of bonus points you can receive is 6.

The Prize

Each national finalist will be invited on an all-expenses paid trip to the No.3 Gin distillery in Schiedam, the Netherlands, to compete in the global final.

The bartender who emerges as the Global competition winner will win an all-expenses paid trip to Singapore, during Bar Convent Singapore, for a takeover at the World famous ATLAS bar.
