Your local team here in Australia, reviewing bars, listing cocktails and featuring Aussie talent.

Heya. We’re Emily & Jane, and together we’re running the Difford’s Guide site in Aus.

What does that mean? Basically any and all content to do with Australia now gets produced here, by us. You might notice a little /en-au in your URL these days which means you’re on the Australian site. We still have all the usual global content but now there’s extra articles, interviews and even recipes specifically from and about here.

Why are we doing this? Because there’s so much going on in Australia when it comes to spirits, bars and cocktails that we thought you all deserved your own team here to start covering the scene. We’re based in Sydney but under usual circumstances you can expect us to be popping up across the country, from bars in Brisbane to distilleries in Adelaide.

You can expect to see loads of great new content. We’ll be letting you all in on the best bars to drink in, the local spirits to stock your home bar with and the bartenders and brands to pay attention too. Of course all the recipes you guys love aren’t going anywhere – that Amaretto Sour recipe 10,000 of you hit a month is definitely staying.

Here’s some credentials in case you needed them. Jane started working with the Difford’s Guide UK team in 2012 and has been a drinks journalist ever since. She’s also worked in some of the world’s best bars (Satan’s Whiskers, Callooh Callay, Cub, Milk & Honey) and visited distilleries and wineries across the globe – from the cellars of Verve Clicquot to Bacardi’s Puerto Rican and Mexican distilleries. Emily has been a part of Australia’s media landscape since 2012, looking after big name clients at OMD before becoming part of the team at Concrete Playground.

Here’s some more fun facts about us: Jane once spent a week in Armagnac visiting all the small producers and is now obsessed with brandy, her favourite drink is a Cognac Sazerac. As the writer of the duo her favourite food and drink-related author is A.A. Gill. She hates peach liqueur. Emily prefers her wineries and is often found exploring the Hunter Valley on the weekend, she’s an avid Champagne fan but her favourite drink is a Dick Bradsell classic – the Espresso Martini.
