Playmate Martini

So we are drinking a...

Playmate Martini

Who would have thought three lines and a couple of dots could be so much fun? Pong, the devilishly simple game that kick-started the video game era, launched on this day in 1972.

And this crude variation on table tennis is still an engaging game today, with thousands of unofficial versions and an official one available in the App Store. We are not sure whether Atari's designers would even have recognised the video behemoths, like Destiny, which cost a cool half billion dollars to make in 2014. Now, VR headsets are taking us to a whole new gaming reality.

Yet the birth of a genre is definitely a day to remember - why not do so with a Playmate Martini, which is more sophisticated than its name would suggest?
