Barceló & Company was established by two Spaniards, Julian and Andres Barceló, in 1929. The company remained a small locally focused rum until 2000 when a group of Spanish entrepreneurs joined the company to create Barceló International S.A. and international expansion of the brand was pursued.
At the time of writing, Barceló rums are made from sugar cane molasses alcohol purchased from other producers in the Dominican Republic. However, Barceló are constructing their own distillery.
Like most other Caribbean rum producers, Barceló age their rums in 200 litre ex-bourbon barrels. We understand that Barceló do not add sugar or other products with the exception of caramel for colour consistency.
