The clue's in the name: Bubbledogs serves bubbles (and a small range of cocktails) and dogs, that is, grower champagne and hot dogs, making it extravagant and blue collar at the same time.

At the less cool end of trendy Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia (nearest Tube Goodge Street) you'll probably find a queue on the street is your first indication of where this New York-style restaurant is (only groups of six or more can make reservations). After a short wait you'll find a small bar, a close-knit group of high tables and school lab stools amid bare brick walls and artistic lighting.

The concept is super simple: five champagnes by the glass and 33 by the bottle, listed by style, as well as a smattering of other fizzy appellations; 13 hot dogs (choose from ppork or beef) range from the naked (just a dog on a bun) to New York-style, German flavours, breakfast-themed and even a Ploughman's country-style dog; and a short list of well-made classically inspired cocktails that many dedicated bar should be proud of.

If you think the combination of upper class fizz and dirty dogs is incongruous, by the time you leave (the turnover's pretty quick) you'll be hungry for more.
