Review

For the past two years, the Pigalle district has become the new it-place for cocktail bars, especially near rue Frochot, a street historically known for its "Bar d'hôtesses" (hostess clubs). Established in 2014, Bâton Rouge lies only a few meters away from this famous street. The concept revolves around New Orleans, where major classic cocktails where created in 19th century: Vieux Carre, Sazerac, Brandy Milk Punch...

Designed by the architect Sebastien Flamant, Bâton Rouge mixes Louisiana style and voodoo decor. Perhaps a bit disconcerting if you don't like skulls, one of the main elements of the decoration. But you'll be comforted by the staff's broad smile and the staggeringly good cocktails.

The two owners are very famous in the Paris bar Community. Joseph Biolatto belongs to the Forum clan, one of the oldest cocktails bar (a new place for this historic bar is scheduled to open in 2016). And Julien Escot is a barman, a writer, the winner of the Havana Club Competition, and the owner of the Papa Doble bar in Montpellier. The two men combine their talent and creativity in Bâton Rouge. The menu is divided between different classic cocktails and new ones, mixed with absinthe, rye and bourbon (a large selection of American whiskeys is available): bottle aged cocktails, famous Orleans Drinks, High Ball from The Bayou, Old Fashion Cocktail, Egg & Milk Punches, aged cocktail, Voodoo Spells... Not forgetting the signature cocktail: Baton Rouge. A great way to mix history and New Orleans style mixology.

In addition to the well-balanced cocktails, the place is renowned for its cajun food menu: ribs, Po'Boys sandwiches, peanuts (FYI, throw your peanut shells on the floor!)... Not forgetting the music: Motown, 90's...
