Review

This tiny rum bar lies mid-way down a narrow back lane around the corner from Boadas in a 12th century building. It is easy to miss as its practically windowless frontage is only betrayed by a brass porthole and subtle sign on the door. Don’t confuse it with the nearby pub - let your speakeasy instincts guide you.

Inside is a narrow, dimly lit room dedicated to the Caribbean island of Cuba. Its dark wood panelled walls are lined with glass display cases of antique cocktail shakers and Cuban souvenirs. Ships’ chandlery such as brass portholes, compasses, hurricane lamps and old fashioned maps adorn the walls and dot the place, while the back section of the tiny bar boasts a serious rum collection.

The bar runs along one wall, and there are only a few seats, so be prepared to lean against a wall in this corridor bar.

Caribbean Club shares owners with Boadas and, as there, the bartenders wear black jackets and bow ties, and throw drinks from one half of the shaker to the other when mixing.
