Despite its suburban location this modern venue achieves city centre standards. Sprawled over three floors, Angel's Share offers a buzzy cocktail bar on the ground floor, a relaxed lounge in the middle, a restaurant on the top floor atop and a large suntrap of a terrace out front.
Part of the same bar stable as Leeds stalwarts Oporto and Jake's, this bar like Jake's, groans under the weight of a decent selection of spirits. The cocktail menu handily explains the 'angel's share as being a term used in the spirits industry to describe alcohol lost to evaporation while spirits mature in wooden casks.
The menu continues the 'angel' theme with a good range of classic and contemporary cocktails listed under headings such as 'Hells Angels', 'Kentucky Angels' and 'Angels of the North'. All tried, including the benchmark Natural Daiquiri were well made.
The "American Kitchen" food menu offers the likes of steaks, gumbo and ribs and these can be washed down with a tasty range of U.S. brews including: Brooklyn Lager, Sierra Nevada and Liberty Ale. (The bijou beer bar, 'Further North' lies close by at 194 Harrogate Road, LS7 4NZ.)
