Review

The name hints at what to expect: wood, floor to ceiling book case-style shelves lined with brandies from around the world. The selection is incredible, ranging from vintage Armagnacs and Cognacs to slivovitz (plum brandy) from the former Yugoslavia. Besides the brandies of the title, a full array of whiskies and rums also line the shelves.

The "librarians" tasked with climbing the sliding ladders and dispensing the bottles also mix great cocktails: a hundred classic and contemporary drinks are listed, alongside nine wines by the glass and a respectable beer selection. The substantial, leather bound catalogue is hardly a menu to fold and pocket, although you can purchase one for $125.

The service, décor and atmosphere are as special as the drinks selection. The Library has a warm amber glow and jazz plays softly, while comfy brown leather seats and long sofas help distinguish the lounge area from the high stools at the bar. This very classy joint caters to a mature, discerning crowd.
