On a Belgravia backstreet, this pub, named after an apparently legendary master builder, has had its exterior walls removed and replaced with floor-to-ceiling glazing. With taupe green panelled walls, oak tables, distressed wooden floors, antlers and stuffed game birds, it is a prime example of a modern gastropub.

Starters range from oysters to Goosnargh duck liver parfait and fig and goats cheese tart. While mains include dishes such as braised beef and Guinness pie, rare breed beef burger and slow cooked pork belly. There's a dining room upstairs but the ground floor is where the buzz is, although when sat in the dining area behind the bar you are somewhat removed from watching the comings and goings of this wealthy neighbourhood.

As befits a proper London pub the Cubitt offers a couple of cask ales on hand-pump alongside a fair splattering of draught lagers. The decent wine list stretches to 18 wines by the glass and the pub has made an imaginative stab at cocktails, ranging from a simple gin & tonic to a Winter Daiquiri with Bacardi, lime, cardamom and thyme.
