The name Worship Street Whistling Shop references an old term for a drinking establishment and located behind the large wooden doors on Worship Street is just that, a delightful subterranean drinking den.
The basement it occupies is deceptively large, decorated in bare brick, dark wood, framed engravings and with a decorative ceiling. There's also a glass-walled 'lab' where bartenders distil both at low and high pressure and create their own tonics and bitters.
Having gone through a few changes of staff since our last visit the bar is still offering great service and equally excellent drinks. Cocktails are divided between hop, barrel, grape and grain and include some intriguing pairings with small food accompaniments. Overall this bar is still very much worth a visit and nestled comfortably underground it's feasible to abandon modern day London to the world above and relax in the dimly-lit Victorian-style lounge.
