There's an ugly, blue and white concrete building designed in the style of a ship that juts out into the canal that leads to Havana's renowned harbour. An advantage of heading through the ship to Los Marinos bar, that is located at its farthest point out into the canal, is that you can't see the monstrosity it is housed in, and you can sit back in the sea breeze and watch ships passing by on one side, and shore-line activity on the other, complete with locals fishing in what must be fairly polluted waters.
We tried ordering cocktails but they didn't seem to have basic ingredients such as lime juice, so we settled on a crudely made Ron Collins. Better to do as your Cuban compatriots are doing around you and order a cold beer as the sun sets.
