Close to Borough Market and at the southern end of the huge wine museum, Vinopolis, this wine bar is one of the best in London.

Originally built as part of the railway engineering works, it was refurbished in 2000 as one of the last additions to the Vinopolis complex. The interior of this old warehouse contrasts bare bricks, wooden beams and painted iron with concrete, modern fittings and contemporary furnishings. A mezzanine level which overlooks the bar area is more loungey with plenty of comfy sofas.

Pleasant though the interior is, Wine Wharf finds its way into these pages mainly due to its wine range and the educated staff who not only offer recommendations but also aren't shy of giving honest tasting notes such as "car tyres and petrol". To complement the wines there's an extensive range of Champagne, Ports, Sherry and Cognac, while a small open kitchen prepares Mediterranean influenced snacks to full-on meals followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding.
