This old back street boozer lies close to Borough tube, its chiselled frontage like the stern of ship running around the sweeping corner of Great Dover and Trinity Streets. Inside, a hotchpotch of old and new with mismatched old wooden tables and chairs surrounding an island bar which juts into the room. A room behind the bar has more of a loungy feel.

A decent beer offering includes three cask conditioned ales on handp-pump while keg beers include a threesome from Meantime, the requisite Euro trash lagers and Cotswold cider. On cold winter's nights a cauldron of mulled wine, served in 1/2 pint beer mugs at £5 a pop, simmers on the bar. There's a splattering of top shelf spirits and an above your average boozer wine offering.

The Roebuck offers a full menu of homely modern British grub. To label this a 'gastro pub' seems poncey (and this pub's not), but gastro pub handily coveys the offering and quality of the fare.

Charlie Chaplin once performed in the upstairs room which now houses a second bar and 'Bang Said The Gun' poetry nights. All this and an enthusiastic young bar team attract appreciative hip local 30-somethings.
