Following the 1959 revolution Cuba’s rum industry was nationalised, consequently Santiago de Cuba rums are made by the state at the former Matusalem distillery in Cuba’s Sierra Maestra region from sugarcane molasses. Santiago de Cuba Añejo is matured for 5 years in oak casks.

Appearance

Clear, deep amber with polished bronze highlights.

Aroma

Mocha coffee,molasses, honey and cinnamon with hints of maple syrup, grilled almond and black pepper spice. Woody rather than fruity.

Taste

Slightly sweet with fudge, butterscotch, light chocolate, mocha coffee, Light vanilla and walnut. V

Aftertaste

Lengthily, cinnamon spice, burnt caramel and chocolate fudge with lingering cinnamon, orange zest and black pepper spice.
