Launched in 1925, Alhambra Negra borders on being a dunkel-style beer but is best described as being a ‘black lager’.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 28/01/2012

Appearance

Clear (almost opaque), dark reddy-black (think cola) with medium head which quickly dissipates with very little lacing.

Aroma

Caramel and burnt toast/heavily roasted malt with a hint of lemon grass. Surprisingly subdued given the colour.

Taste

Ignore the colour, this is flavoursome lager with burnt toasty malt and an ever so subtle hint of anise.

Aftertaste

Wafts of smoke drift over the heavily charred toast and liquorice finish.
