Review and Tasting

Sampled on 23/03/2015

Appearance

Clear, straw yellow.

Aroma

Pungent black cardamom and nutmeg with buttery oak, oxidised wine, cinnamon and burnt citrus zest.

Taste

Piney juniper fights with black cardamom and nutmeg for attention with cinnamon (cassia), sage (coriander seeds), liquorice, black pepper and dry oak.

Aftertaste

Cinnamon, nutmeg, black cardamom and black spice with lingering piney juniper and rooty liquorice. Overall: The ‘London dry gin’ statement on the screen printed bottle is sure to mislead many who might find Amber a tad too spicy. I love the idea of finishing in what we presume are ex-Noilly Prat casks, but feel the delicate wine notes imparted have been overwhelmed by excessive spice.
