Lemon zest twist
How to make:
STIR whisky with three ice cubes (dry to the touch frozen ice, not wet ice) in a glass. Add sugar syrup, bitters and two more ice cubes. STIR some more and add another two ice cubes. STIR a bit more, and if you have room, add more ice.
|2 1⁄2 fl oz||Lagavulin 16yo Islay single malt whisky|
|1⁄3 fl oz||Demerara sugar syrup (2 sugar to 1 water)|
|3 dash||Peychaud's Bitters|
Islay single malt is for many the king of all whiskies so it should be celebrated in more cocktails – particularly Old Fashioneds.
In late 2014, Eliot Cole sent us an email saying "one of my favourite drinks ever was an Old Fashioned made with Laphroaig (possibly quarter cask)... it was made at Hotel Delmano in Williamsburg, Brooklyn." Thanks to Eliot we took to the bar and with a nod to David Embury's preference for Peychaud's bitters with whisk(e)y in my mind made this tasty Old Fashioned.
