This autumn marks the tenth anniversary of the ever popular MOMO Restaurant, Lounge and Bar in Amsterdam. The silent star behind MOMO's 'glam packed' cocktail bar is bar manager My-hoa Nguyen (27). Time for a small chat about My-hoa's career so far.
My-hoa: "I was born and raised in a tiny city called Harderwijk. As a little kid I’ve started working in hospitality when I was 14. I started as a kitchen porter till I was old enough to serve alcohol. When I turned 16 (which used to be the legal age to serve beer & wine, I became a waitress.
When I finally finished high school I immediately grabbed my stuff and moved to Amsterdam. I wasn’t a a pro in studying, so after 2 years I’ve dropped it and started working fulltime. I’ve done several different things; I was a model, worked at Models at Work & Showpony for hostess jobs, was the door host of club Jimmy Woo and worked as a waitress on the Rembrandt Square.
Next to my busy work schedules I was hanging around in the bar scene, where I got approached to work at ‘MOMO Restaurant, Lounge & Bar’ from The Entourage Group. I started off as a cocktail waitress, and eventually would have the opportunity to become a bartender. And that happened.
I have been working for The Entourage Group for almost six years now. In the past years I became Head Bartender at MOMO and I not long after, I moved to MR PORTER to become bar manager. After a year I got asked to return to MOMO for the same position, and that’s where I’m at today."
