Legacy final 2019 is drawing nearer and nearer and Bacardi is holding nothing back when it comes to creating one of the bigger parties the city of Amsterdam as ever seen. Wondering who the judges are? Look no further …
With the Bacardi Legacy final around the corner - 14th of May if you were still wondering - tension builds not only for the 43 finalists from every corner of the world, but for the city as well housing so many of the industry gurus and bartending legends. This event is not a one-day event at all, but rather a complete week with semi-finals being held on 12 & 13 of May, before the grand finale at de Rode Hoed in Amsterdam.
Although the list of judges for the semi-final is impressive to say the least, with Athens Bar “Baba Au Rum” owner Thanos Prunaros and 2017 Legacy winner Ran van Ongevalle to name a few, it is of course on the big stage where the sights are set on.
Plus, Legacy is unique in the fact that part of it is focused on the bartender’s promotional campaign, which this year is judged by Holland’s own Boudwijn Mesritz, former Dutch finalist himself and owner of Tales and Spirits and Jitterbug Saloon.
Some even believe being on the judging panel is almost as nerve-wrecking as being on stage, with so much at stake depending on your decision.
So here it is, the final judging panel:
- Juan Pinera. The Maestro de Ron Bacardi himself. We hope for the finalists the rum shines through well in their drinks or they might find themselves on the losing side with this judge.
- Ian Burrell. The personification of the entire rum category, this gentleman breathes rum in all its glory.
- Julie Reiner. One of the leading ladies of the bar industry and New York bar owner, having created a few legendary cocktails herself as well.
- Eric van Beek. In true competition fashion, it is only fair if last year’s winner helps decide on their successor. Being the first to have won Bacardi Legacy for the Netherlands EVER is no small feat!
