The Bacardi Legacy final 2019 is drawing nearer and nearer and with so many people inbound to the city of Amsterdam, we look at 6 of its top bars, bartenders and drinks.
First up: the cocktail bar that seems to have won it all recently, Flying Dutchmen Cocktails.
This bar opened its doors in December of 2017 and is all about taking a step back into a classical approach. “We must walk, before we can run, before we can fly” seems to be the mantra that is central. However, even though this might not seem the obvious place for flashy technique, the backbar holding over 700 spirits definitely lends itself for endless creativity. This includes some more exclusive products, such as the Facundo range of rums for instance.
One of the leading ladies at FDC is Cecile Fayn. She has been working here since the bar opened and is perhaps the bar’s most active competition bartender.
She had the pleasure of competing in this year’s Bacardi Legacy, and made it to the top 3 of the Netherlands. Even though she did not end up winning, she still remembers the competition and the road to the final fondly.
In fact, her drink made it into the menu of the bar, and she is happy to share the recipe with you here!
So here it is, the El Pico cocktail:
In a shaker filled with ice cubes, combine the following ingredients:
45 ml Bacardi Cuatro Rum
20 ml Martini Rubino Vermouth
10 ml fresh lime juice
10 ml Maple syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Shake until very cold, strain into a chilled coupe and top up with Billecart-Salmon brut champagne. Garnish with a lime zest.
The El Pico
Flying Dutchmen Cocktails is open 7 days per week from 5 PM-4 AM. However, be sure to drop by during the Bacardi Legacy Week from the 10th May until the 17th, when there will be additional focus on the El Pico cocktail.
Also, be sure to either tune in for the live stream on Facebook of both the semi-final and the final itself. Or better yet, approach your friendly Bacardi sales staff now and try to secure your seat at the final!
