The Forbidden Garden in Amsterdam Noord was the stage for the Central Europe finals of the House of Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge. Seven bartenders were battling during the quarter finals of the competition organised by the rum, amaro and cocktailbitters brand. They all got through to the first rounds and on Monday 9th of September, it was time for them to represent their countries in the Dutch capital city.

The Central Europe title was the trophy for one champion out of the seven competitors, which included two bartenders each from Germany, the Netherlands and Austria, and one bartender from Switzerland. Sarunas Paskevicius and Gianni Martino Ripa from Germany, the Polish Kacper Dylak who represented Switzerland, Jolien Hackett and Julian Mayrhofer from Austria and Dimitar "Dimi" Atanasov Vasilev and Bryan Kuijer from the Netherlands.

The judging panel consisted of Tess Posthumus (bartender & bar owner of Flying Dutchmen Cocktails), Andrew Nicholls (founder of William George rum) and Ciro Adriano de Georgio (Brand Ambassador Angostura Netherlands).

After presenting two cocktails each, the judges came to a winner from Austria. Julian Mayrhofer from Josef Cocktailbar in Vienna took the title and the ticket to Krakov, where he will be competing in the semi-finals of the House of Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge.

5 dashes Angostura Aromatic bitters
1 egg yolk
20 ml heavy cream

20 ml banana liqueur

4 green cardamom seeds
Method: Shake and fine strain
Glass: Martini
Garnish: Grated nutmeg & a (thankfully fake) butterfly

2 dashes Angostura Aromatic bitters
100 ml homemade coconut soda
Method: Built in a longdrink glass filled with cubed ice
Glass: Longdrink
Garnish: Lemon peel
