This old Victorian corner pub is something of a hybrid. By day it is a traditional, quiet local serving food and coffees. But it gradually transforms until, late in the evening, it becomes a DJ led party venue. A wide cross-section of regulars, from office workers to pre-clubbers, both gay and straight, are here for the fun and their collective energy hits you as you walk in the door.

Although, at least by day, the place retains a tavern feel, the maroon walls, reclaimed church pews, mismatched furniture and candles position it very much in the gastro pub vein. And The Saint James duly offers a full Thai menu and roasts on Sundays.

On the liquid front, there are the usual pub lager suspects, seven wines by the glass and four ales on draught. But it?s the back bar that makes this place unusual, as once heralded on a chalk board outside "The best range of rum in Brighton (probably)" you will find over 80 difference rums served by knowledgeable staff plus classic rum cocktails.
