The summer of 2012 got even hotter when chef Casey Lane opened The Parish in July. Located in a narrow, wedge-shaped space in downtown, Lane's take on the English gastropub is quite different than his acclaimed Venice hotspot, The Tasting Kitchen. The crowd runs the gamut from after-work businessmen to artsy loft-dwellers who fill the intimate, second floor bar and dining room, warmly decorated with reclaimed wood, antique wraparound windows and iron sconces to evoke a vintage vibe.

The Parish launched with a cocktail programme created by the now-departed John Coltharp, whose signature Historic Core Cocktail (rye whiskey, applejack, Green Chartreuse, sweet vermouth, Angostura Bitters) traveled with him from Seven Grand to his most recent stint at The Tasting Kitchen. Coltharp's classically-driven menu also features The Real McCoy, a Mai Tai variation made with rhum agricole blanc, pot still Jamaican rum, lime juice, orange juice and orgeat. The extensive tap list rotates between seasonal and year-round craft beers from LA and Orange County breweries. Lane's modern pub fare includes highlights like the poutine with crispy pork shoulder and the buttermilk fried chicken, served with heirloom tomatoes and arugula.
