diffordsguide.com triumphs in Spirited Awards 2013

diffordsguide.com took home two trophies in the Tales of the Cocktail 2013 Spirited Awards in an epic evening attended by more than 1,000 people with Chuck Norris (yes, really) on hand to make sure acceptance speeches didn't overrun.

Simon Difford took to the stage to accept the first award of the Great Gatsby-themed night: diffordsguide was named winner of the Best Cocktail Writing (Publication) category and beat off competition from Australian Bartender Magazine, Bar Magazine Digital and Imbibe magazine (U.S.).

diffordsguide editor Ian Cameron then missed out in the Best Cocktail Writing (Author) to veteran drinks writer gaz regan. But, in a shock move, gaz called Ian to the stage and surprised the audience by dedicating his award to him and insisting he took the trophy home instead. "I simply wanted you to win," he told Ian afterwards. What a gent - we promise we'll keep it safe for you gaz.

diffordsguide previously won a Tales of the Cocktail Best Cocktail Writing Award in 2010.

gaz also read out an open letter to Henry Besant, who died earlier this year, in a moving tribute that moved many of the audience to tears - cue shots of Olmeca Altos tequila all round.
