Named after an 18th century slang word for strong or old ale, this bottle conditioned ale is fermented in Yorkshire stone squares and aged in oak casks for over a year in Sam Smith’s underground cellars. Yeast and sugar are added when bottled to induce a second fermentation in the bottle.

(sample best before Jun/15) Hazy, deep mahogany amber with thick beige creamy head and heavy lacing.
Treacle, toffee, nuts, yeast and dried fruit/Christmas pudding with honey and oak.
Burnt Christmas pudding, stewed apple, prunes, toffee apple, subtle oak and treacle with light barbeque charcoal bitterness and faint liquorice. Alcohol bite evident.
Treacle, fudge, prunes and burnt Christmas pudding with liquorice, mocha coffee and slightly spicy tannic oak. One for aficionados - far from mass market appeal.
