Distilled in 1992 by Somerset distiller, Julian Temperley using 1991 vintage Seyval Blanc wine from the Lamberhurst Estate in Kent. This was aged for 23 years in French oak casks. Just 2,000 bottles were made, each individually numbered and presented in a gift box.
(sample bottle cask No.97/034-2 bottled 08/Mar/16) Clear, deep coppery golden amber.
Stewed and dried fruit, cigar leaf, light cinnamon spice, dark honey, faint pencil shaving-like woodiness and liquorice.
Strangely light yet full-bodied. Baked apples, green apple peel, cinnamon spice, nutmeg and dry oak.
Dried and baked apple, cinnamon, cigar leaf, new leather and pencil shaving oak.
Delightfully light – no boisé or sugar in here – perhaps the woodiness is tad raw and pencil shaving-like but this sits harmoniously with attractive baked apple and mild cinnamon spice. It’s not cognac, nor armagnac – it’s English and proudly different.
