Founded in 1817, Bladnoch Distillery, which lies in Scotland’s Lowland whisky region, is the southernmost distillery in Scotland. Situated on the river of the same name, just outside Wigtown, Bladnoch was mothballed by United Distillers (Diageo) in 1993.

In 1994, Raymond Armstrong, who originally viewed the distillery as a holiday home, brought the distillery along with his brother Colin with the stipulation that it could not be used for whisky production. In 2000, Diageo agreed to lift the ban on distillation and production resumed in December of the same year.

Due to increased production costs, the Armstrongs temporally halted production in 2009. A disagreement between the two brothers over whether to sell the distillery eventually led to the distillery going into liquidation in March 2014.

In August 2015, Australian businessman David Prior purchased the distillery, warehouses, visitor centre as well as stocks produced between 2000 and 2009 for an undisclosed sum, creating a new company, Bladnoch Distillery Ltd.
