Lying just off the bustling Rambla, this tiny, triangular place is one of Barcelona's oldest bars. It was opened in 1933 by Miguel Boadas, who learnt his trade at the famous Floridita bar in Cuba.
Miguel passed away in 1967 and his famous bar is now owned by his daughter, Maria Dolores Boadas. She has altered little of her inheritance and her father's memorabilia still adorns the paneled walls. Maria was born the year after her father opened this bar and until recent years and ill-health was practically part of the furniture.
The jolly team of bartenders resplendent in black jackets, white shirts and black bow ties ply their trade with confidence and mix drinks by flamboyantly pouring the ingredients from one shaker held aloft into another several feet below.
Cocktails are wonderfully old-school and Dry Martinis, Gimlets and Mojitos appear most popular. Martinis come frozen with little dilution. Try one of their excellent Daiquiris or the 'Cocktail del Dia' (cocktail of the day) chalked on a board behind the bar.
