Mexico is a truly incredible country, and not just because they produce some of the world's most complex and delicious spirits. From the green agave-dotted...
Out here in Nuevo Mexico I wanted to celebrate Mexican Independence Day by make margaritas with Mexican limons, which are hard to find Stateside, and remembered my take on Difford's Yuzu Margarita, which probably comes close. Difford had the stunningly good idea (why didn't I think of it?!) of making margaritas with Cointreau replaced by Ferrand Limited Edition Late Harvest Yuzu Curacao but replaced the lime with yuzushu liqueur, whereas I just use yuzu juice (see his page on Yuzu Margaritas).
I had the honour to be in Mexico City during Independence Day festivals. We stayed in the Zona Rosa and the Paseo de la Reforma was decorated in flowers at each intersection representing the various states of Mexico. It was stunning.
I am looking forward to celebrating Mexico today - I love that country! I will also be celebrating the first ever televised football game on this day in 1937, between Arsenal and Arsenal Reserves. In honor of that I created an Ally Pally, a riff on an Old Pal so named as the BBC broadcast the game from Alexandra Palace. https://www.diffordsguide.com/cocktails/recipe/37082/ally-pally
