Apricot liquor and rich almond syrup balanced tart lemon and bitter aperitivo in what's described as a "mash-up of the Third Man and the Bitter Mai-Tai...
What an aperitivo. Truly stunning drink with almond richness, apricot fruitiness and sweetness, rounded off by a slight, but appealing bitterness from the Campari. Sam Ross is an absolute legend. I'd rate it 5 stars, personally. Besides stuff like the Jungle Bird, I'd give this to someone who says they hate Campari.
I love Campari in anything, I’m very to a Mai tai and everything invented by Sam Ross is to die for, so I was pretty excited to give this a go…. The first few sips definitely had promise, but about half way through, when I was trying to nail some of Fort Lauderdale’s elusive flavours, the word “soap” popped into my head and it was an effort to drink the rest of it - I think apricot liqueur (mine has a very distinctive bitter almond aroma) AND orgeat makes for a very marziapan aka soapy taste
As a lover of Mai Tais and more bitter cocktails like Negroni this is a ideal mix. Made with amaretto rather than Orgeat. All the lovely almond of mai tai with a bitter note.
