The French Republican Calendar celebrated Absinthe (Artemisia absinthium) on 27th June. The calendar concocted by André Thouin, the head of the Jardins des Plantes, and the poet Fabre d’Églantine, celebrated the in-season plants to "make the people more aware of the passage of the seasons".
It's a neat way of choosing a cocktail ingredient:
27th June: Absinthe /
1 July: Clove /
2 July: Lavender /
5 July: Redcurrant /
7 Jult: Cherry /
9 July: Mint /
etc

I've interpreted the artemisia to include vermouth, and I am celebrating with a Californie Palace -- an aromatic Last Word that swaps out the lime for dry vermouth and bitters.
