Rich and fruity but still very much a martini. Was still tempted to add a small lemon twist in addition to the maraschino Cherry. Aviation gin, Cocchi vermouth di Torino as suggested, and the Bitter Truth aromatic bitters worked beautifully here.
Normally a sweet Martini at 2:1 is not my preferred drink and I would be more likely to make a Perfect Martini if I wanted something in this genre. However, the use of a Maraschino cherry and Angostura Aromatic bitters as opposed to lemon peel and orange bitters intrigued me. Utlimately as others have suggested the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Very nice cocktail. A fantastic mix of flavors. As John said, a boozy cocktail, yer remarkably smooth.
My only question is that it says to use a lemon zest twist as garnish but yet is shows a Luxardo cherry (which would seem to go better).
Flavourful and wonderful cocktail. Boozy and wonderfully herbal. Given the limited number of ingredients, use the best you have. It will not disappoint.
