I was not a big fan of this drink. Maybe it was my specific ingredients (my lemon needed using up), but there was an unpleasantly bitter element to the swallow that I did not enjoy - something else than the expected bitterness from the Cynar. I'll have to revisit and update as appropriate. Otherwise, the drink starts off nicely enough, with rum funk and lemon tartness. I didn't really detect the elderflower at all.
A lovely drink, much greater than the sum of its parts. Flavors of dried fruit, almonds, and a bit of caramel. Aged brown liquor and Cynar have a real affinity for each other.
This has quickly become one of my favorite cocktails. It’s just so perfectly balanced, and I can never say no to orgeat! Tonight I discovered that it’s just as good (and dangerously smooth) with an ounce of 100 proof bourbon in place of the overproof rum…
