For many years the preserve only of the Bacardi family, Bacardi 8-Year-Old was first released with a sherry oak finish, as a very limited edition, in 1995...
Unfortunately, it didn't blow my mind. Still, it's a 4-star rating. But for the same price, I would prefer a better aged rum or just a bourbon.
I'd say it's good enough to drink neat, or to make an Old Fashioned, but there are better aged rums.
But in Brazil and other places in South America there aren't many options.
The Bacardi 8 year that I'm finding in the US just says "Reserva" instead of "Grand Reserva": https://www.bacardi.com/us/en/our-rums/reserva-ocho-rum/ I can't figure out if it's a different product or just different branding?
