We thought the 3 star rating was rather harsh. Directly compare this and the degroff version. Both excellent and delicious. Degroff is more boozy and overtly flavoursome, the above is highly refreshing and tasty on a warm evening. The extra pineapple juice also gave a lot more froth! Fun either way! Noted comments below re soda water but it added a nice tart element also.
Tried this version of the Singapore Sling side by side with the Dale DeGroff version:
The Raffles formula is decidedly sweeter and has a stronger pineapple taste; foam and mouthfeel is excellent - it's an amazing tropical, complex cocktail.
IMHO, it doesn't need soda and is best enjoyed without (!).
The DeGroff recipe is more tart and not as suave.
Guess it comes down to preference, but for me this is the better/best Singapore Sling.
This recipe looks trash (too much pienapple). Gobsmacked that it was not far off, flavor-wise, from my favorite receipt, specs wise. I did use Mariquinhas, which helped... This is a Disney-crowd wash of an exoticalia sultry swill. (30 Sep 2023, 9:19a)
Hi this is not the current Raffles recipe , Its 30 gin, 10 Cherry Heering, 10 Benedictine, 10 Dry Orange Curacao (Pierre Ferrand) 60 Pineapple, 22.5 lime juice, 10 ml Grenadine, one dash of their own bitters, I used Angostura. There is no soda water..
Quite different to both the Raffles and DeGroff versions given here. Heavier on the sour element in particular. Very refreshing and perhaps more adapted to current tastes.
