We used to party pretty hard...not so much these days. So we decided to work with this one down the scale of Vermouth Amari from 'party hard' Punt e Mes. The first step down, Cocchi Doppo Teatro, was too vanilla for us. But the next step down, Cardamaro, was a real joy...so if, these days, you're looking for something with a bit of subtlety and elegance, there (maybe) you go.
Interesting comment regarding bitterness dominating. On first tasting I in fact found drink a bit sweet. Then I realized it was a little warmer than I generally prefer my cocktails which probably accentuated the sweet. Putting the drink in freezer to chill some more tempered the sweetness and amplified the bitterness making for me a much better balanced drink. A longer stir presumably would have done the same, but I think might have diluted too much. Oh, and agree great for Punt E Mes lovers of which I consider myself one!
