Made this to spec with Cocchi Storico and Oregon Spirit Straight American Bourbon (Bend's finest; 94 proof). I thought the Chambord got somewhat lost in what is a fairly dry but otherwise conventional Manhattan so I increased it by 1/2 tsp to 2 tsp (1/3 oz, or 10 ml). Now the Chambord is more noticeable, making this a more distinctive Manhattan variation without making it particularly sweet. I also added a small piece of orange zest for garnish along with a Luxardo-cherry-on-a-sword. Very nice Manhattan variant.
Had to improvise, used Sidetrack rasberry liqueur and a rather cheap bourbon, Lux Row Distillers' Ezra Brooks 99 and Cocchi Storico. Was excellent. Now that's a Manhattan I can get behind!
As a Bourbon guy, I really like this one. As has been stated, it is very Bourbon forward, so I would use a higher quality Bourbon and not a "mixer" one. Chambord not very prevalent for me. Has an "Old fashioned" feel to it.
Although I'm not convinced that the man himself would go for one of these, I'm making it tonight to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Charlie George's iconic FA Cup Final-winning goal and celebration!
